Having attended George Washington University, Kurt Nelson graduated from Portland State University with majors in Political Science and History.  Kurt has also earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Lewis and Clark College as well as a Certificate in Crime and Intelligence Analysis from the California State University at Sacramento.

With nearly three decades of criminal justice experience, Kurt Nelson has certification in crime analysis, corrections, and law enforcement.  He has taught criminal justice subjects at the college level, as well for local criminal justice agencies.

In addition, Kurt Nelson has served in the Peace Corps (Afghanistan), and has honorable discharges from the Marine Corps and Coast Guard.  Kurt Nelson has earned a Master’s License from the Merchant Marine, and was a mountain climbing leader for organizations such as the Mazamas and Outward Bound.  Further, his volunteer work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Park Service has added to a rich life experience.
